Future Works Passivhaus

Constructor: Future Works
Architect: bere:architects

Brooks Devlin and bere:architects worked together on the winning entry for the first ever Passivhaus design competition, run by BRE Wales in conjunction with Blaenau Gwent County Council and United Welsh Housing Association.

Passivhaus dwellings typically have around 90% better energy efficiency than existing housing, the team proposed heat recovery ventilation, superinsulation, triple glazing, timber frame, airtight construction standards, solar thermal and photovoltaic panels and external solar shading to meet Passivhaus’s demanding Code standards. The two houses that form the development should also meet Code 5 and 6 standards – 6 being the highest level available.

Our winning entry is now turning to reality in one of the first social Passivhaus to be built in the UK, at the Ebbw Vale ‘Works’ redevelopment site. Read more about the project here.
