We worked with RCKa on a competition entry for a medium sized development of Code 5 family homes in Carryduff, Ulster.
The Code 5 Super Semi (C5SS) design incorporates pitched roofs that twist south to maximise solar exposure. Each roof can accommodate up to 77 roof-mounted PV panels, but via energy modelling only 58 panels and a single very low NOX gas boiler were needed to provide all the energy for each home and meet Code 5.
We also suggested the use of monolithic Clay block walls to provide excellent insulation and high speeds of construction, and large windows flood the interior with light, which reduces the need for artificial lighting, which is 100% dedicated Low Energy Lights (LEL) – both efficient and affordable.
